Denise's Blog

Denise M. Pulgino Stout has been a part of children's services in public libraries for over about 13 years. Denise's public library career began in 1991 in the Children's Department at Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library as a Junior Provisional Librarian. During that time Denise helped coordinate a children's performer's showcase entitled "Sneak Previews" to enable children's professionals to make quality choices for programming. She then jumped the border and became Youth Services Outreach Librarian at Chester County Library. The position was created in 1998 and Denise is the first to hold the position. It was a traveling job that took library services to 30 child care centers all over Chester County. She had a brief off-the-road job at Chester County Library's newest branch, The Henreitta Hankin Library, in the children's room. Her career in libraries has recently come full circle, going back to her "roots" at Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library as the Head of Youth Services. Denise has a BA in Liberal Arts/Theatre from California University of Pennsylvania, where she specialized in Children's Theatre; a Provisional Public Librarian Certification from the PA Dept. of Education and Northampton Community College; and an MSLS from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. Denise looks forward to many years providing children and their caregivers the highest quality library services and programming.

Children's Outreach Coordinator

Lackawanna County Children's Library

I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Comparative Literature from Penn State in 2004 and quickly followed up with my M.L.I.S. from the University of Pittsburgh's FastTrack Program in 2006. I have been working at the Osterhout Free Library since May of 2005 first as a branch supervisor and more recently as their Early Literacy Outreach Coordinator. Now I am currently Children's Outreach Coordinator of the Lackawanna County Children's Library. The best part of my job is being out in public and a kid yells, "Hey I know you!" I feel like a movie star. My personal heroes are Harriet M.Welsch, Suzuki Bean and Dorothy Parker.
